This summer is especially hot in Hong Kong. With days that hits 34 degrees, I simply can’t stay in denim any longer. Instead, I have been living in short bottoms these days — skirt, shorts, culottes, anything but denim.
To match with all these high waist bottoms, a cropped top is definitely the best and the hottest item this season. I have been looking for cropped tops in different colors and materials, but it’s not easy to find one that suits me — they are either too short or too open that I simply need to wear something under (adding on another layer in this weather is definitely a no-no). So, I decided to buy tops that fit me well and alter them to the length I want.
I couldn’t be happier with the result. I have been cropping more than five tops so far and I am still doing it. I highly recommend you to do the same.
This time, I matched a navy blue cropped top with a brush stroke full skirt I found from Karen Millen which is another summer must-have. Full skirt not only adds on femininity but it can also create casual chic look when you match it with flats sandals or sneakers. And the brushstroke print is simply the hottest print this season.
- To get the right length, put on the top and measure it from your belly button. I normally make it 2 to 3 inches down from my belly bottom, assuming the high waist bottom is 1 inch up from the belly button. This will create a small overlapped space between the top and the bottom and make you look taller and slimmer.
- Don’t throw away your old tops so easily. Giving them a crop may give your wardrobe a complete makeover with new looks that will last you all summer long.
